DEFENDING MEXICAN CHILDREN'S HUMAN RIGHTS

La Casita:  A HUMANITARIAN PROJECT  TO RESCUE THE MOST VULNERABLE FROM SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AND ABUSE

ABUSED CHILDREN  IN MEXICO

Everyday, children in famous, world-wide vacation destination, Cancun, México, are  abused, abandoned, raped and exploited. Most of them are underprivileged ethnic Mayan kids.

According to UNICEF, Cancun is rapidly becoming a major international “child sexual tourism” resort. This perverse “industry” usually prays on undernourished, vulnerable kids between the ages of five and twelve. Few are receiving any help.

YOU CAN HELP US STOP THE SUFFERING !

La Casita is the only comprehensive NGO project in Cancun reaching out to these children. We are currently providing 120 victims of extreme abuse and exploitation with full-time education, all basic health services, legal protection, and a home with a nurturing, caring environment with individualized attention.

THE SILENT TRAGEDY

The children you see in these pictures have been exploited and brutally abused in unimaginable ways. Because of Cancun's reputation as an international, up-scale vacation resort, real-life scenes that are unsightly, are usually not shown to tourists. Yet, outside the flashing Hotel-strip, beautiful beaches, and fancy residential developments, reality stares us  hard in the face and melts our hearts.

La Casita: OFFERING SOLUTIONS

We are a legally established, non-profit association of local professionals committed to rescue, raise and protect these kids.  For this purpose, we have founded a registered charity and assembled a multidisciplinary team of specialists to change and transform the conditions and quality of life of as many exploited children as possibly.

VISION AND MISSION

Dr. Patricia Seoane, founded our first home for ‘street children' in 1993 to take care of seven abandoned kids who had been abused.

In December 2002, and thanks to the contributions of many caring people, the State governor of the city of Cancun honored La Casita by personally inaugurating the K-12 School building and modern facilities that are home to 120 abused and homeless children and young girls.

Our vision goes beyond dealing with the appalling “collateral damage” of human greed and selfish insensitivity. Besides caring for the underprivileged, we are also actively involved in changing social conditions in the community by:

 ·   Relentlessly pursuing criminal charges against those who exploit children

·   Broadcasting radio programs to educate public opinion and raise awareness about the problems that children face in a culture of drugs, alcohol, prostitution, and violence

·   Active involvement I the community to change soft laws to toughen sentences for child related crimes like molestation, rape, exploitation, human trafficking and corruption of minors

·   Our organization is honored to be one of the few non governmental organizations sitting in the board of civic consultants of the State Congress Legislature. Our formal invitation and involvement dates from September 9, 1996

Education

La Casita's K-12 School is registered and fully accredited by the Government's Ministry of Education.   All programs are fitted with special literacy training for students who have had little or no formal schooling. Education is a core value of our mission that includes English classes and computer training.

We have established cooperation agreements with altruist, private institutions, specialized medical doctors, dentists, hospitals and psychologists in the community. But feeding, educating, raising and providing legal protection and 200 children, is not cheap. In order for us to sustain this work and rescue even more exploited kids, your help is needed.

 OUR GOALS FOR 2005

·   To raise sufficient funds to meet our annual budget to keep sustaining with dignity 120 children

·   To complete the second part of our building project to be able to house more exploited and abused kids. There are many knocking at our doors!

·    To buy a much needed School Bus for transportation

·    To obtain a small truck to pick up food donations

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Of every Dollar you invest in La Casita you can be assured that 90 %  goes directly to help the kids, not bureaucracy.  This is because most of our staff is composed of local volunteers and  professional residents that donate their time for free.

Our president and founder, Dr. Patricia Seoane, has no salary! She is a self-sustained married professional and ex university professor.

All of our Board of Directors is composed by self-sustained local people.

That's why your money goes directly to buy food, books, bricks…or life-saving medicine.
